A DXA scan tells us how many grams of calcium and other minerals are in a section of bone. It is quick and painless.
A bone density test, also called a dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) scan, measures the mineral in your bones. The spine and hips are the usual places we test, and sometimes others too.
Checking how much bone you have is only half the picture, so we also order lab work to find out why you may be losing bone.
